Hi, I’m Meghan.
I’m a Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist with a Master of Social Work from the University of Toronto.
I created Bird Nest Therapy out of a deep belief that healing can create space for us to reconnect with ourselves, our bodies, our sexuality, and the people we care about. It can be incredibly difficult to feel a home in your body, trust yourself, and experience sexuality and connection in the ways you desire. At Bird Nest Therapy, I create a warm and non-judgemental space to explore some of the parts of life that are hardest to talk about.
You’ve done the talk therapy. Maybe you understand all of your patterns, but haven’t yet found a way to break out of them. If this sounds familiar, Bird Nest Therapy might be the right place for you.
About Me
My Therapeutic Approach
I believe than an holistic approach to therapy is the best way to integrate multiple bodies of psychological and sociological research, while co-creating a therapeutic approach that is best suited to your needs. Below is a list of therapeutic modalities I regularly draw from.
-
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a type of talk therapy that helps us understand how our thought patterns impact our feelings and actions. In CBT, we can learn to replace maladaptive patterns with healthier ones.
-
Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) is an evidence-based approach that view emotions as valuable information about our values, needs, and boundaries. In EFT, we learn to understand and communicate our emotions. In understanding our emotions, we can ultimately better understand ourselves and those we love.
-
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) teaches us that multiple realities can be true at the same time. Through mindfulness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance skills, DBT helps us to both accept and change our current patterns.
-
Somatic Experiencing (SE) Therapy is a body-oriented approach that helps us understand and process how stress, emotion, and trauma is store din our body through physical sensations. SE therapy is a valuable tool for strengthening the connection between our body and mind.
-
Internal Family Systems (IFS), sometimes understood as Parts Work or Inner Child Work, helps us understand and foster compassion towards the different parts of us (i.e. the people-pleasing part) that are shaped through formative experiences and are doing their best to help us cope.
-
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy uses bilateral stimulation to assist our brains in processing traumatic or distressing experiences.
-
Psychodynamic approaches help us to understand how our past experiences, including attachment to caregivers and other childhood experiences, can shape our unconscious beliefs and patterns.
-
Solution-focused therapy is a goal-directed and short-term approach to therapy that helps us find practical solutions to current problems (i.e. communication difficulties, scheduling challenges).
This is Parker, beloved companion and official mascot of Bird Nest Therapy. His presence is felt through the tapping of his paws on the floor and his sleepy sighs in the background of virtual therapy sessions.
Parker has a special place at Bird Nest Therapy because of all he can teach us humans on how to live. He teaches us how to be the most authentic versions of ourselves, to listen to our bodies, to take rest when we need it, to feel deeply, and to love widely and fiercely.
